Suitcase search reveals two kilos of heroin: RCMP

A 32-year-old Surrey man is facing drug-smuggling charges after more than two kilograms of heroin was found stashed in a false-bottom suitcase at Vancouver International Airport.
The man was travelling from India via Germany on April 22, when Canada Border Services Agency officers pulled him over.
An X-ray of his luggage revealed an anomaly, and led officers to discover a bag of white powder, suspected to be heroin valued at more than $800,000.
The suspect was handed over to RCMP, along with the heroin. He was not known to police prior to his arrest.
The man has since been released, but RCMP have recommended charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance, and importation of a controlled substance.
Staff Sgt. Dave Goddard, media relations officer for the RCMP's Greater Vancouver Drug Section, said the case reflects the careful screening and targeted enforcement by CBSA. In March, border services officers at YVR found four kilos of heroin hidden in the false sides of a man's luggage, who had also arrived from India.
