Pune: When the Air India Express flight IX 211 departed for Dubai at 5.30 pm on Saturday, only 100 out of the original 136 passengers, stranded for over 24 hours, were on board. A total of 30 passengers cancelled their reservations owing to a series of delays, postponements and cancellations of the flight.
The ones aboard breathed a sigh of relief.
After the flight was cancelled on Friday, many of the passengers had returned home while many others — including women with small babies and elderly people — agitated. The Air India authorities informed them that the flight was rescheduled at 6.30 am on Saturday.
The 26 hours were most torturous for over 40 workers who came down all the way from Kerala to take the flight and had a connecting flight to Muscat from Dubai.
They had to wait at the airport throughout the night as they were not given any accommodation.
