Air India reshuffles top-level managers

New Delhi: National flag carrier Air India has reshuffled a dozen top managers, including some from human resources (HR), a month after a strike led to the cancellation of 138 flights and caused a loss of Rs10 crore.
“This is the biggest reshuffle since the new chairman has taken over,” said an Air India official who did not want to be named.
The last major reshuffle, in August, was only at the level of executive directors. This time, the carrier has transferred six general managers from the personnel department.
Following the May strike, the carrier fired 56 employees and suspended 26. The official said the reshuffle shows the tough action will be followed up. “Half the problems are there in Air India because there are no clear directions from HR.”
The airline has scrapped the position of executive director of corporate strategy, held by G.D. Barara.
New chief operating officer Gustav Baldauf and the airline’s core strategy group will formulate strategy from now on, a second airline official said. He, too, spoke on condition of anonymity.
