Inderjit Singh Reyat perjury trial delayed until September

Vancouver: The perjury trial of the only man convicted in the deadly June 1985 Air India bombing has been delayed again until September 2010.
Inderjit Singh Reyat was supposed to go to trial June 22 on allegations he lied 27 times during evidence he gave at the AIr India trial of two others in September 2003.
The new trial date of Sept. 9, 2010 comes seven years after Reyat was brought as a Crown witness against Ripudaman Singh Malik and Ajaib Singh Bagri, both of whom were eventually acquitted.
Reyat has been out on bail for two years on the perjury charge, after serving a five-year sentence for manslaughter in the Air India bombing.
The latest delay was granted Friday morning in B.C. Supreme Court after an application by Reyat defence lawyer Ian Donaldson.
Donaldson is tied up with the murder trial of Raminder (Mindy) Bhandher.
A jury was picked and ready to go in March when a complaint was made to the judge that one of the jurors had made a potentially racist comment. The jury was dismissed and a new date fixed of May 17.
