Kannur airport scouts for consultants

The Kerala Government is looking out for a project consultant for the development of the proposed international airport in Kannur.
The Kannur International Airports Ltd. (KIAL) has already floated the request for proposals for the selection of a suitable consultant for the project.
The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra), the approval agency appointed by the Government to set into motion the preliminary work on the project, has already got a techno-economic feasibility report prepared by EMA Unihorn (India) Private Ltd. in 1999 and revised in 2005.
The project consultant will be required to review the report and finalise the master plan for the airport, obtain statutory clearances and select a company through bidding process for taking up the construction of the airport.
KIAL is expected to be restructured as a public limited company with 26 per cent of the equity being held by the Government, public sector undertakings will constitute 23 per cent and Government-promoted agencies two per cent. The balance 49 per cent will be given to high value investors and the general public.
