Mangalore crash: Interim compensation draws to a close

Mangalore: Air India authorities handed over Rs 13.36 crore to next of kin of 152 victims of IX 812 crash and another Rs 2.86 crore to 150 cases from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund in the third phase of distribution of interim relief announced by the national carrier here on Thursday.
Compensation is being paid to kin 152 deceased and eight survivors, excluding the six crew members.
Speaking to reporters here, Sunil Kishen, Executive Director, Southern Region, Air India, said the process of taking forward the settlement for any families remaining after Thursday for lack of proper documentation, will be done at a later date, expressing hope that all interim compensation clams would be settled on Thursday itself.
Regarding a query on the final compensation, he said he would not hazard a guess as the process involved lot more documentation and the solicitors, led by senior lawyer H D Nanvathi, will look into it.
