New corruption charges against Manoj Malviya

The CBI case against Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) official Manoj Malviya is threatening to open a can of worms in the aviation sector.
The agency has now found that Malviya took favours from Kingfisher and Jet Airways to facilitate security clearance for two major acquisitions that the two airlines made in the recent past.
Malviya allegedly used his position as additonal commissioner, BCAS, to facilitate security clearance for the 2006 merger of Sahara Airlines with Jet and that of Deccan Airways with Kingfisher in 2007.
“Malviya was part of policy-making process in aviation security and had considerable influence in these matters. After these two mergers, security parametres had to be redefined for both the airlines.
That is where Malviya is suspected to have played a role. We are collecting more evidence on this,” said a senior CBI officer.
The CBI investigations have found that Malviya availed of free air tickets worth Rs 65 lakh from Jet Airways for himself and his family to travel in and out of the country.
