Pune: Over the last two years, there have been more than a dozen incidents of bird-hit at Pune airport which the officials cite is due to “the lack of proper waste disposal arrangements around the airport”. The airport authorities are holding the state government responsible for it.
“An Environment Assessment Committee has been constituted that meets regularly to review the environment policy and the reasons leading to bird hits,” said airport director Deepak Shastri.
Shastri, however, observed there has been a decline in the number of bird hit incidents over the years. The principal reason, he said, was the lack of proper waste management system around the airport. “The policy on avoiding the bird hits is implemented by the Indian Air Force,” he said. Despite repeated attempts, IAF officials were not available for comment.
