Tharoor writes to Centre on airport woes

Thiruvananthapuram: Moved by the severe hardships being faced by passengers at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport owing to the shortage of manpower in the immigration wing, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has written to the Centre, urging it sort out the issue soon.
In a letter to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Tharoor said that the strength of the immigration officials at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport should be increased immediately.
Tharoor pointed out in the letter that international passengers at the international airport here were facing severe hardships due to the delay in immigration checks, which was an outcome of the less number of immigration officials at the airport.
While the total number of immigration officials at Thiruvananthapuram Airport is only 42, it is 125 in Nedumbassery - almost three times. However, Nedumbassery airport has only 10 to 15 additional passenger movement as compared to Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor pointed out. Moreover, a police officer in the rank of SP is heading the immigration wing of Nedumbassery airport, whereas a DySP is heading immigration at Thiruvananthapuram.
