AAI paves way for multi-level car park at airport

Chennai: Eight companies took part in a pre-bid meeting held to clarify the doubts of contractors who have expressed interest in building the Rs-150 crore, 56,283sqm multi-level car park as part of ongoing expansion at the Chennai airport.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to outsource construction and operation of the car park that will come up in front of the new domestic terminal.
AAI executive director of airport development cell R C Chitkara and AAI member (finance) Satish C Chhatwal from Delhi took part in the meeting on Monday along with senior AAI officials from the Chennai airport.
"The companies have raised a couple of queries about the project and the process of bidding. The AAI will provide the answers after which the bidding will start. The bidding process and the project is on schedule," said airport director E P Hareendranathan.
Sources said that representatives of the companies raised queries about viability of the project and also its capability to generate revenue as the project is being constructed under build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) system.
