Mumbai: Neil Mills, currently serving as the chief financial officer (CFO) of the Middle-Eastern low-cost airline Flydubai will be the new CEO of budget airline SpiceJet, three people, including a member of the board, confirmed to ET. Mr Mills will join the airline in October.
On Wednesday, Sanjay Aggarwal had stepped down as the CEO of SpiceJet. The deal with Mr Mills, inked by the new promoter, media magnate Kalanithi Maran, is widely believed to be the reason why Mr Aggarwal chose to step down. Kishore Gupta is the interim CEO of the airline.
Sources within the airline said the contract with Mr Mills was signed almost at the same time when Mr Maran closed the deal for a 37.7% stake in the low-cost carrier last month for Rs 746 crore.
Mr Mills joined Flydubai in July 2009 from one of Europe’s most successful low-cost airline, easyJet, and has expertise in budget airline sector.
Sources within SpiceJet said there would be more changes after the exit of Mr Aggarwal and the top management of the airline, including the chief financial officer, the HR head and head of customer services, might also be on their way out.
