Thiruvananthapuram: The inauguration of the new international terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram Airport has once again been postponed with the State Government insisting that no less than the Prime Minister himself should commission the Rs 290-crore project.
The inauguration, which was rescheduled for July 16, will now take place somewhere in October only as the Prime Minister would not be able to come down to the State prior to that.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials, who were busy making arrangements for the inauguration, received a message from their headquarters on Tuesday morning informing them that the inauguration has been postponed indefinitely and a fresh date would be announced later.
A telephonic conversation Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan had with Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister T K A Nair and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Monday is learnt to have led to the last minute-decision to postpone the inauguration.
The Chief Minister said in the Assembly on Tuesday that the State Government hoped that the Prime Minister himself would inaugurate the new international terminal.
