Jaipur airport intensifies bird fight

Jaipur: After SpiceJet flight SJ-913 suffered a bird-hit while taxing soon after it arrived from Ahmedabad on Tuesday, giving jitters to 134 passengers on board, the Sanganer airport officials intensified their campaign against the menace. The officials are focusing more on scientific methods to scare away kites and vultures.
The authorities plan to carry out inspection of nearby areas to find out the possible areas harbouring birds. They are attracted due to residential areas near the airport. The poor garbage disposal also aggravates the situation by becoming a breeding ground for them.
Some methods are a funny spectacle for passengers when bird chasers on jeeps wave their hands and shout at the birds minutes before the take-off or landing of a flight.
However, the most reliable method is the automatic LPG scare guns. These guns fire a shot after every two minutes. It releases an air ball with an intense force aiming the birds to scare them.
Another method is firing crackers aiming to release smell of gunpowder in the atmosphere.
Aviation experts said maximum bird-hits happened during rainy season.
