Kingfisher suspends Imphal operation

Kingfisher Airlines has suspended its operation in Imphal following a huge monetary demand of Rs 20 lakh by the banned KCP (MC)-Lalheiba group on the airline’s office in Imphal.
Official sources Saturday said that the operation of the Kingfisher Airlines in Imphal was suspended because of an extortion demand Rs.20 lakh served on the station manager at Imphal.
Manipur police registered a case at Singjamei police station on receipt of complaint from the station manager Ravi Sharma on June 20 last. Sharma, in his complaint lodged through the SP (CID), reportedly stated that one cadre of the KCP (MC) Lalheiba contacted him twice on June 13 and 15 last demanding the payment. The militant also threatened to close Kingfisher’s operation in Imphal if it failed to comply with the demand by June 20 which had already expired. The station manager also received the extortion note via e-mail from the outfit. It may be pointed out that the operations of the Kingfisher Airlines was suspended for around three weeks but the reason came to light only after police informed about the situation to various queries by passengers as to why the airline remained closed.
