Multi-level car parking at Chennai airport to be outsourced

Chennai: A cash-strapped Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to outsource construction and operation of a multi-level car park at the Chennai airport planned as part of the ongoing expansion work.
The AAI earlier planned to build the Rs 150-crore 56,283 sq m car park in front of the domestic terminal being built.
The project deadline is set for nine months so that it could be ready when the ongoing modernisation of terminal buildings would be completed by 2011.
When completed, Chennai airport will be the second in the country after Delhi to have multi-level car parking. A similar facility is also planned at Dabolim airport in Goa.
Several companies have responded to the "request for proposal" released by the AAI and a pre-bid meeting is scheduled to be held at Chennai airport on July 12. Senior officials from the AAI headquarters will participate to get feedbacks and also to finalise a list of companies who will be allowed to bid for the project when the bids open on July 15.
Around 1,338 cars can be parked in three basement levels below the ground and on a portion of the ground floor. The proposed parking charges are Rs 60 for four hours and another Rs 60 for every additional four hours after that.
