Paramount licence suspended for not meeting minimum fleet requirement

New Delhi: The licence of the Chennai-based Paramount Airways has been suspended by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Sources told Business Line that the airline will have to meet the minimum fleet requirement and address pending safety issues for the regulator to consider reviving the airline's licence.
An airline must have a fleet of at least five aircraft to be considered a scheduled airline. At the moment, Paramount has just one operational aircraft.
The airline promoters, however, say that the airline is operating normal services. But inquiries at the Chennai airport show that Paramount is not operating flights till Monday.
“The licence was suspended yesterday,” sources said, adding that this was done after a High Court order.
Terming the news about the licence suspension as “figment of imagination,” an airline spokesperson told Business Line that the Government had recently cleared the airline's proposal to import 22 aircraft.
