Mangalore: For scrap dealers, ground zero has become the El Dorado. Even after three months, with every available inch of the site already dug up for valuables, there are new entrants at ground zero searching for valuables at the site where the Air India Express flight No. IX-812, from Dubai crashed at Kenjaru on May 22.
Compared to the initial days, after restrictions to visit the site were lifted, the numbers have dwindled, but there are people still sifting, digging the site.
On Thursday, scrap pickers Ramanna and Shanthi were furiously sifting the site. Ramanna from Kavoor, armed with digging tools, was scouring every inch of the site for valuables. Though Ramanna denied looking for gold, he said he wouldn't mind, if he got lucky. `I'm mainly looking at metal, which fetches good value," said Ramanna showing what he had dug up after two hours under the blazing sun. He has been visiting the site from three days and works from morning till evening.
