Mistaken to be IM man, trader detained at IGI

New Delhi: A 38-year-old businessman from Kolkata had to spent several hours at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Thursday after he was detained by FRRO officials due to his resemblance to wanted Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Amir Reza Khan.
The man, identified as Amir Khan, was questioned by FRRO and various other security agencies and had to miss his flight to Afghanistan which was scheduled late on Thursday night. After being cleared by the agencies, Khan flew to his destination.According to airport sources, a high alert has been sounded for IM founder Amir Reza Khan at all airports across the country. He is wanted in all major terror strikes in India and a look-out circular has been issued against him.
The entire security system went in a tizzy after Khan was detained. The special cell of Delhi Police was also called for questioning. During Khan’s questioning, the FRRO officials found that his passport had several entries to countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. ‘‘A resident of Kolkata, he had also visited Karachi a few months ago to meet his relatives. This time, he was visiting his sister in Afghanistan. The police said Khan is a businessman and his passport was issued from Kolkata,” said an FRRO official.
