Mumbai airport officials zero in on error hot spots

Mumbai: After a series of runway incursions in the past few months, the Mumbai airport has identified "hot spots'' in and around the runway to curb such incidents.
Airport officials have identified three incursion-prone areas and have issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to airlines so that pilots can be extra careful while negotiating those turns. The airport has also got a set of taxiway lights on the secondary runway that can be turned on when the stretch is used as a taxiway. Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) shared these information on Friday during a session on airport operations and safety management systems, which is being held as part of Airport Safety Week.
"These spots-identified by officials of the airport as well as Airports Authority of India and pilots-either have a history of incursions or are places where pilots keep committing errors. Steps have been taken to mark these spots to avoid any incursion," said Bryan Thompson, director operations, MIAL.
