New radars to ease air congestion

Mumbai: In a bid to ease air congestion, Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to instal new radar and automation systems at various airports, covering the airspace of the entire country.
While some of them will be replacements for the existing facilities, the others will be additions. The city airport will also receive a radar under this project.
According to officials familiar with the development, AAI will set up eight radar and 38 stand-alone automation systems — an independent computer system keeping a tab on the airspace. The tender for installation has been awarded to a Spanish company, INDRA.
