Chennai: A minister in the Tamil Nadu government was turned away by Air India at the Chennai Airport on August 3 as the wife of the airline’s general manager, who was holding a free ticket, had to be accommodated in the flight to Madurai.
According to Civil Aviation sources in Delhi, K R Periyakaruppan, HR and CE minister, has written, through his PA, to the Air India CMD, complaining that he was not allowed to board the flight, despite him buying a ticket for Rs 11,000.
The letter, with copies marked to several officials in the Union Civil Aviation ministry, said that the minister was told that his ticket was “wait-listed” and could not be confirmed.
Another passenger was confirmed on a free ticket, which are issued to airline staff or employee’s relatives on a subject-to-availability basis, the letter said.
