3 arriving flights miss slots, late by 40 mins

Mumbai: The city airport implemented the stick-to-slot rule to streamline arriving flights on Tuesday night, even as airline officials and industry observers remain skeptical of its successful implementation.
On the first day, three arriving flights missed their slots and were told "to hold" till empty slots were available. They were delayed by 40 minutes. A Kingfisher flight from Delhi, a Jetlite flight from Rajkot and a GoAir flight from Delhi landed behind schedule. The average delay for other flights was 15 minutes. Almost three flights landed before the scheduled time as well. The pressure was eased with the cancellation of at least five flights because of the Kolkata bandh. Compared to the average delay of 45 minutes during these hours, flights were late by 15-20 minutes only.
The airport witnesses as many as 54 scheduled arrivals during the peak time between 9.15 pm to 11.15 pm. "The timings of these flights will be tracked one stop before they reach Mumbai to know if they can stick to their slots. Based on the number of vacant slots created by the delay of these 54 flights, other late flights—whose arrival times overlap—will be allowed to land," an official said.
