Delhi, Mumbai need 2 airports

New Delhi: The Union civil aviation minister, Mr Praful Patel, said on Wednesday acknowledged the need for more than one airport for cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
“The proposal for the establishment of an airport at Jewar (in Uttar Pradesh) near Delhi is currently under the examination of a Group of Ministers. The GoM is looking into the contractual obligations of a second airport in Delhi vis-a-vis the current airport operator,” Mr Patel said. GMR-led Delhi Internat-ional Airport Ltd operates New Delhi IGI airport.
The minister also told the Parliamentary Committee that “the Navi Mumbai airport (second airport for Mumbai) will happen in the very near future” and that “there were some environmental issues which are being addressed”.
