Generosity Turns Bogus, Flights Slashed To 2

Srinagar: New Delhi’s generosity in allowing Kashmir the use of the Awantipur Air Base for civilian air traffic till the Srinagar airport remains closed for runway repairs appears has not turned out to be the expected boon after all, because the number of daily flights has been drastically slashed to a mere two or three a day from the previous twelve.
With the Srinagar airport having closed down for ten days on Wednesday afternoon, the three airlines which have decided, rather been permitted, to operate flights to Awantipur, have witnessed a soaring demand for their tickets, while a large chunk of travellers have had to cancel their bookings for lack of seats.
Only the Indian Airlines, the Jet Airways and the GoAir will operate flights to Srinagar during the ten days, while the SpiceJet, Kingfisher and GoAir were reported to have “not taken any decision” as yet.
