Hubli: The "alleged" failure of the government to convince the farmers to part with their lands has cast a shadow over the future of three ambitious projects planned in north Karnataka.
The three projects __ expansion of Hubli airport to international standards, setting up of National Thermal Power Plant (NTPP) at Kudagi village in Bijapur district, and Tata steel plant in Haveri district __ are facing uncertainty following farmers' opposition to spare their land.
The government had issued a notification to acquire land for the projects two years ago. But no district administration has successfully acquired the farmers' land so far.
Farmers of Hubli, who have land in Gokul and other parts, are refusing to give their land for airport expansion. The process of land acquisition for the Hubli airport is going on in a snail's pace for many years now. Of the required 700 acres land, the district administration has so far acquired only 300 acres.
About Rs 26 lakh been fixed for each acre of agricultural land to be acquired for Hubli airport. The problem is almost solved there, he added.
