Mumbai Morning flights late for takeoff were already losing their slots; now, the Mumbai Air Traffic Control will extend the crackdown to late, incoming flights at night. Starting Wednesday, such flights will not be allowed to land if the delayed arrival falls between 9.15 pm and 11.15 pm, under a drive by the Civil Aviation Ministry and the ATC.
In a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), the ATC has said landing in that period will be allowed only to those flights with scheduled slots. So if a flight is scheduled to arrive before 9.15 pm is delayed, it cannot land till 11.15 pm.
This is being implemented in two airports, Delhi and Mumbai.
According to MIAL, till July the on-time performance for arrivals was around 48-50 per cent. It improved to 68 per cent in August, after the Ministry started discussing its plan.
