Ordeal for 203 passengers from Dubai, Abu Dhabi

Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 203 passengers from Dubai and Abu Dhabi bound for Kozhikode got stranded in Thiruvananthapuram international airport for over five hours on Friday as two Air India Express flights carrying them were diverted from Karipur due to poor visibility.
The IX 344 Dubai-Kozhikode and IX 348 Abu Dhabi-Kozhikode flights were diverted first to Kochi citing poor visibility at Karipur airport. The two flights were later diverted to Thiruvananthapuram due to inclement weather at Nedumbaserry airport.
The IX 344 flight with 48 passengers landed at 7:59 a.m. and the IX 348 flight with 165 passengers landed at the international airport here at 7:31 a.m, a top official of the airport said.
The passengers are confined to the aircraft as the duty time of the pilots of the two AIE flights were over on reaching the airport here.
Airport sources said the passengers started agitating as they were informed that the flights could commence journey only after the pilots arrive from Bangalore.
The officials of the National Aviation Company of India Ltd (NACIL) that operates the AIE flights held talks with the agitated passengers and made alternate arrangements to send them to Kozhikode.
