Chandigarh: Claims of Airport Authority of India regarding installation of Instrument Landing System (ILS), a device for safe landing of aeroplanes during poor visibility, at Chandigarh airport before the onset of winters seems to have fallen flat as work on installation of the device is yet to start. Sources confirmed that a period of over three months is required for setting up of the device, but the project is still caught in red-tape.
Most of the private airlines operating from the local airport, which suffered huge losses last winter, are worried about the coming season and have conveyed their concerns to the authorities.
Requesting anonymity, a private airlines official stated that normally fog engulfs the airport in the beginning of December, but the process of installation is yet to be started by the airport. At present, there are around 11 flights operating from the local airport for domestic destinations.
