SC refuses Kingfisher plea to stay competition watchdog’s probe into Jet Airways alliance

New Delhi: With the Supreme Court on Friday refusing to give any relief to Vijay Mallya-promoted Kingfisher Airlines, the competition watchdog is now free to go ahead with the probe into airlines’ strategic alliance with Jet Airways (India) Ltd.
The Competition Commission of India in August last year had restarted the investigations to examine the two-year-old alliance between the two leading private airlines to ensure that the deal did not create a monopoly in the aviation industry. The two carriers together command around 45 per cent of domestic passenger traffic. A bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia refused to stay the probe into the alleged cartelisation in the aviation industry through its two-year-old strategic alliance with Jet Airways.
