Three dozen Viswakarma pujas at airport

Kolkata: Close to three dozen pujas are scheduled on Friday on the premises of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, a record in any single complex.
Sources at the Kolkata airport said the director's office has been flooded with requests to inaugurate the pujas. "Till last count, we have received over 24 invitations from different departments within the organization as well as outside," an official said.
By Wednesday evening, there were 31 pujas already, though none could furnish a comprehensive list. Sixteen wings of Airports Authority of India, including civil, electrical, electronics, fire and cargo, were busy making arrangements for pujas in their respective departments.
The staff across various departments have been busy since Monday, preparing for the mega festivity that promises to turn the airport into a celebration zone. Special passes have been issued to pith or shola artisans for decorating the mini pandals that will house the idols.
Nearly all departments have multiple pujas one at the domestic terminal and the other at the international. The conveyer belt maintenance staff, for instance, have four pujas lined up, one each at the departure and arrival areas of domestic and international terminals. Separate pujas have also been organized by the lift section, housekeeping and trolley retrieval staff at each terminal.
