Male: Civil Court Tuesday rejected the lawsuit filed by the opposition coalition against the US$25 airport development fee to be charged at Male International Airport by India’s GMR Infrastructure.
According to the court, the case does not state whether the government is violating any right stipulated by the constitution in implementing the plan.
Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Dhivehi Qaumee Party (DQP), People’s Alliance (PA) and Jumhooree Party claimed that the government is gearing up to charge US$25 and US$2 from every passenger leaving the Maldives. The parties sought a court order requiring parliament approval to tax passengers at the airport.
