Hoax callers target IndiGo the most

New Delhi: Government data shows that India’s most punctual airline is also the most common target of pranksters, most of whom are passengers who are about to miss their flight.
“Of all the hoax calls received in the last two years, almost 90 per cent related to IndiGo flights,” a top government official told The Indian Express. “In most cases, it was found that the callers were passengers who got delayed or were denied boarding and were likely to miss their flight. So, they made hoax calls to the airline’s call centre.”
Low-cost carriers were targeted more frequently by hoax callers. SpiceJet, another low-cost airline, was the second most targeted, behind IndiGo by a substantial distance.
Airlines have received 15 hoax calls so far this year, three of which have been “specific”. A “specific” call activates the highest level of bomb-threat alert, after which security agencies carry out a detailed drill to sanitise the aircraft.
