HSRL could hurt IAF's landing systems

Bangalore: The proposed `5,700crore High Speed Rail Link (HSRL) project, which will connect the city centre and the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) via Yelahanka, could impact flight operations at the Air Force Station, Yelahanka, as the air bases' instrument landing system (ILS) might be exposed to electromagnetic disruptions.
In order to overcome this glitch, the Bangalore Airport Rail Link Limited (BARL) has approached the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) - a Radar design and development laboratory of the DRDO - to address the issue.
"We have approached LRDE to study and give us a solution in this regard. Once they give us their report, we will incorporate their advice," C Jayaram, director (Projects), BARL told Express.
LRDE scientist Dr D C Pande, who is studying the issue, said that the Bangalore based laboratory is currently involved in measuring the frequency and calculating whether there is an interference with the ILS, which provides precision guidance to an aircraft approaching and landing on a runway.
