International flights from Chandigarh by Jan

Chandigarh: The city's hopes of marking its presence on the international flight map could not be realized last year as the local airport was not able to provide facilities necessary for that. However, now, the authorities are claiming that the Chandigarh airport would be ready for such flights from January with essential facilities, including night landing.
An airline, Fly Dubai, had stated last year that it wanted to start an air link between Chandigarh and Dubai. That was cancelled at the last moment due to non-availability of infrastructure like segregated area for international passengers, immigration officials and security staff apart from the night-landing facility.
Officials said the airport would have the potential of having flights to other major foreign destinations as there was a large presence of NRIs in the area.
Director of Chandigarh Airport, Sunil Dutt, told TOI that the integrated terminal there would have a separate path for international passengers, two aerobridges for boarding, space for immigration centre where passports, visas, and baggage are checked and necessary security staff.
"The airport is ready for night landing. Navigation aid required for landing in poor visibility would also be available here before January," added Dutt.
