Jindal stopped with jewellery at airport

Mumbai: Customs officials stopped Sajjan Jindal, chairman and managing director of Jindal Industries, one of the largest Indian conglomerates, while he was passing through immigration at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport yesterday.
The incident happened when Jindal and his wife were about to walk through the green channel.
A customs official asked the businessman to screen their bags thorough the X-ray machine. Officials spotted expensive jewellery in the bags and asked the couple about their papers and declaration.
The Jindals, who flew into Mumbai on a British Airways flight from London, were under the impression that the valuables they were carrying were not dutiable. And that created a misunderstanding at the counter.
However, the confusion was soon cleared and the couple left the airport.
Additional Commissioner of Customs Prem Chand, who was present at the spot, did not divulge any details of the items that the couple was carrying.
He refused to make an official comment on the incident.
Pune-based builder Avinash Bhosle ran into a similar trouble when he landed at Mumbai airport with expensive watches and other goods in 2007.
