Keep cash & give us promotions, say Air India medal winners

Bangalore: The Commonwealth Games medallists from Haryana may have struck a gold mine in the form of cash, cars and adulation, but for those from Air India, the expectations are entirely different: they need promotions that have been denied to them for years.
After a week of suspense, when the 10 medallists from Air India waited in anticipation even as other states and ministries such as petroleum and steel announced awards, civil aviation minister Praful Patel announced that he would felicitate the medallists at the ministry's office in New Delhi on October 27.
While it is not clear what the goodies will be, sources said given a choice the medallists would rather want their organisation to promote them than hand them cash awards.
"Since the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines, we haven't had a single promotion. Even the stars among us who have been winning medals regularly have been ignored. We are not saying money is not important. It will help us in performing better in future. But promotions are paramount," the sources told TOI.
All 10 AI employees who participated in the Delhi Games returned with medals.
