Man smuggling saffron arrested at BIA

Bangalore: Officers of Customs Air Intelligence Unit, Bengaluru International Airport, intercepted one passenger, Abdu Melethil, when he was allegedly attempting to smuggle `high quality' saffron worth Rs 30 lakh into the international market.
The 44-year-old pasenger had arrived by Kingfisher airlines from Dubai on October 12. According to customs officials, Melethil was attempting to smuggle the saffron out of the airport by concealing it in three accompanied baggages, without declaring the same to customs authorities at BIA.
Melethil was arrested and produced before the magistrate of the Economic Offences Court, Bangalore.
