Mumbai: There was a time when people who wished to join the aviation industry wanted to be a part of Air India. However, it seems that being on the payroll of the Maharaja is not all that it was once cracked up to be.
Today, Air India employees are hooked to the Internet more than anything else.
The reason: they eagerly keep checking if their salaries are credited to their accounts because the administration do not give them the salaries in a timely fashion, they complain.
"When we see budding companies like Singapore Airlines growing and becoming a trendsetter in the industry, we recall the days when Singapore Airlines was provided expert assistance from our pilots.
But today, unfortunately, Singapore Airlines is the best pay master and AI fails to even pay salaries on time," said a senior crewmember from Air India.
And it's not just a few crewmembers complaining about the delay in salaries. Many of them echo the same woes. "For the past 10 years or so, the condition is the same.
The company believes in cutting wages and allowances, believing that it will help in making the venture profitable.
But they fail to see that only the end of corruption and a good market policy can improve the deteriorating conditions," said a pilot.
