Bangalore: With the Bangalore International Airport (BIA) planning to introduce mobile boarding services, boarding passes may soon be a thing of the past.
At an interactive meeting organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Monday, Marcel Hungerbuehler, President, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said the airport was planning to introduce mobile check-in service, making it the first airport in the country to adopt this system.
“We are planning to start mobile boarding pass services and are in talks with airline companies and have called them to test the system. If successful, we will implement this service in another six months,” he said. Hungerbuehler also said that BIAL already has a two-dimensional bar code technology, which is in compliance with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and after successfully testing it with the airlines and security agencies it would be implemented.
