Suspended AI staff to get back jobs

New Delhi: Four months after 32 Air India employees were suspended for their role in a two-day flash strike in May, the government today told an MPs’ delegation that it has decided to withdraw all suspensions. These employees would join work on Wednesday, said a delegation member.
The assurance was given by civil aviation minister Praful Patel to CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury and senior CPI leader and All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta. “He (Patel) assured me that the issues have to be resolved with the unions. As a gesture and the first step, all the employees suspended will be reinstated,” Yechury said after holding telephonic discussion with Patel.
However, talks would continue on other issues like sacking of 58 employees and de-recognition of two unions — Air Corporation Employees Union and All India Aircraft Engineers Association — that led the illegal stir.
