Thiruvananthapuram: Sreekumar Nair, an official of Mahindra Consulting firm in Chennai, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, became the first ‘real’ passenger to step into the new terminal of the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.
Sreekumar was one among the 186 passengers, including two infants, and six crew members, who alighted from the Air India Express flight IX 605 from Chennai at 3 p.m. on Tuesday as part of a live trial run.
The Airports Authority of India had earlier carried out a trial run on October 18 with airline officials on board an AI Express aircraft as dummy passengers.
Captain Syed Abuthaher and Captain D R Auplish, the two-member cockpit crew, said that the maiden trip to the new terminal was satisfactory except for some small patches on the new taxi track. Senior officials of Airport Authority of India, including Airport Director G Chandramouli received the passengers by offering bouquets and sweets.
