Mangalore airport to try out aerobridges

Mangalore: Three months after the new integrated terminal building of the Mangalore airport became operational, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will begin using two aerobridges at the airport on a trial basis from Friday.
Airport Director M.R. Vasudeva told The Hindu on Thursday that the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had approved the plan.
After completing check-in, passengers can directly get into aircraft from the terminal building using the aerobridge. Likewise, they enter the terminal building directly from the aircraft.
Mangalore receives heavy rainfall between June and October and the summer months of March, April and May are very hot, and aerobridges will ensure that passengers do not have to brave the rain or the sun.
Mr. Vasudeva made it clear that aerobridges would not be provided for ATR aircraft as they were not designed for such planes.
