No staff for Maharaja

Mumbai: The royal figure of the nation's aviation industry Air India Maharaja is facing a shortage of staff. And it's the airline's passengers like you who bear the brunt of it.
As Air India (AI) struggles to run its operations smoothly, flights either get delayed or, worse, cancelled.
On Thursday, AI sacked Chief Operating Officer (COO) of its subsidiary, Air India Express, Pawan Arora over the controversial appointment of a chief training officer.
With this, AI's COO Gustav Baldauf also threatened to quit. The same day, the Bombay High Court which was hearing a plea by an airhostess who was sacked a fortnight before her retirement, rapped AI, saying its officials pass orders mindlessly.
"There is acute shortage of crew, especially with IC flights which operate mostly on the domestic sector. Invariably, most of these flights get delayed or cancelled," a senior crew member of AI told MiD DAY on condition of anonymity.
"Crew members who have reported sick or have availed of leave are being told to resume duty in order to tide with the staff crunch. We have no option but to obey orders.
