They touched the skies in their dream flight

Kochi: Never in their wildest dreams did they imagin being onboard a jumbo jet. And when it actually happened, it was a dream come true for the 350odd children from across the state. For many of them, flying in the 'Queen of the Skies' was an experience of a lifetime.
On Children's Day, the children of special schools, orphanages and schools for the blind had their cherished flight when Air India joined hands with the Rotary Club, CIAL, Hindustan Petroleum, Kerala Engineering Alumni and State Bank of Travancore to organise 'Fly with Dreams', a fifth such initiative. At 12:20 p.m., when the cabin crew made sure that all the 423 passengers were properly seated, the Air India Jumbo 747450 took off from the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery.
The enthusiastic passengers onboard included differently abled children from 31 special schools in Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thrissur and Idukki districts.
The astonishment was reflected on their faces right from the moment they entered the terminal. To add fun to the flight experience, actors Mamta Mohandas, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Nadirsha, Sukumari, singer Gayathri and Education Minister M A Baby too joined the gang.
The onehour trip was from Kochi to Kanyakumari and the flight circled over the Vivekanada Rock in Kanyakumari and then flew back to Kochi.
