Will welcome Tata foray into aviation: Praful Patel

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Tuesday welcomed "any foray" by Tatas into the civil aviation sector, a day after Ratan Tata said he did not enter the airline business as he was not comfortable with the idea of bribing Rs. 15 crore to a minister.
Responding to Ratan Tata's statement that he was asked to pay a bribe of Rs. 15 crore to get into the civil aviation sector, Patel said, "It is unfortunate that Mr Tata had a bad experience in the past."
In 1997, Tata group and Singapore Airlines had floated a JV to bid for Air India.
Addressing a gathering in Dehradun yesterday, the Tata Group Chairman had said he did not enter the airline business as he was not comfortable with the idea of bribing Rs. 15 crore to a minister, as had been suggested by an industrialist.
He said he had regrets that despite being a pioneer in the airline industry, the group faced enormous problems in setting up a domestic airlines.
