Court directs AI, travel agents to refund money

Bangalore: While allowing the complaint filed by Anit Alexander, resident of Bismillah Nagar, the consumer court directed Air India, Anjana Travels and Akbar Travels to refund the amount of `10,455 along with compensation to the complainant.
The complainant had purchased air ticket from Akbar Travels, sub agent of Anjana travels, in August 2008. Later, he cancelled his travel and got refund voucher from Air India asking him to collect the amount from the travel agency. The voucher was issued in the name of Akbar Travels. The complainant approached the travel agency seeking refund of the amount but Akbar Travels refused to refund the amount as Anjana Travels had to pay some dues to Akbar Travels.
Despite repeated request from the complainant, the travel agency refused to refund the amount.
The court found the deficiency of service on the part of Air India and its travel agents.
