New Delhi: The IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI) is now planning to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh requesting restoration of commission for travel agents. This memorandum will be submitted soon along with support of all travel agents in India, for which the Association is expecting participation of the entire travel fraternity to make this move successful. The decision to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India has been taken as the Association has not yet received any positive response from the zero commission airlines even though the Kerala High Court has directed DGCA to ensure that travel agents receive commissions from the airlines.
The Association has repeatedly asked the 16 international carriers (Air Canada, Air France, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, Finnair, Japan Airlines, KLM – Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Qatar Airways, Silk Air, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International and United Airlines), to start paying five per cent commission on gross fare to travel agents. IAAI recently asked domestic Low Cost Carriers (Air India Express, SpiceJet, IndiGo, JetLite and GoAir), to also start paying five per cent commission on gross fare to travel agents.
The Association has requested entire travel fraternity, who wish to participate, to sign a copy of the memorandum and send it to IAAI Central Secretariat by email or as a hard copy, prior to submitting the memorandum to the Prime Minister of India. The Association is trying to finalise on a date to schedule a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss the issue.
