Taxi fare to BIAL route likely to increase by ten per cent

Mumbai: The taxi fare to Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) route is expected to increase by ten per cent after the toll gates on the BIAL route become operational. As of now, the regular taxi fare to the airport varies between Rs 500 and 600. It has been announced by taxi owners that the toll rates will be added to the existing fares.
According to a report in Deccan Chronicle, K Radhakrishna Holla, Joint Secretary, Bangalore Tourist Taxi Operators’ Association (BTTOA) said, “We are opposing the move to install toll gates on BIAL route. But it is likely that the toll booths will become operational from next month. Once the toll booth is functional, the taxi fares will increase as per the toll amount. We are predicting a hike of Rs 60 and the fares will vary between Rs 560 to Rs 660 for non-air-conditioned taxis.”
Holla added, “We are against the toll as the situation does not fulfill the norms for toll collection. Totally there are 25, 000 tourist taxis in the city, of which 3, 000 are dedicated for BIAL commuting. The taxi owners are strongly opposed to bearing the cost of the toll.”
