Air India to operate flights under single code

New Delhi: By the end of this month, you will no longer have to buy separate tickets for domestic and international travel across the Air India network.
If all goes well, the airline will begin operating under a single code - ‘AI’ - and this could eliminate a lot of hassle for people who use the airline for domestic as well as international travel frequently.
As of now, the domestic AI network uses ‘IC’ code, whereas only international flights use the ‘AI’ code and this forces fliers to buy separate tickets, transact on two different airline counters at airports. Besides, with single code usage, AI’s entry into the global airline grouping Star Alliance is also expected to be expedited.
But will integration of erstwhile Air India and Indian Airlines be completed with the adoption of a single code? Not really, since multiple issues such as different wage agreements, different working hours etc continue to remain unresolved across the two erstwhile airlines.
