All flights grounded due to haze

Chandigarh: More than 1,000 air passengers coming to and from Chandigarh airport were stranded on Wednesday as not a single flight could operate from the airport due to extremely hazy conditions in the region.
Presently there are 11 flights operating out of Chandigarh airport and approximately 1,500 to 2,000 passengers board flights out of the airport everyday. The City Beautiful is connected to Bengaluru, New Delhi, Jammu, Srinagar and Mumbai.
Speaking to TOI, controller of Chandigarh airport Captain HS Toor said that the visibility was around 1,000 meters, which made it impossible to operate any flights. He informed that the ground calibration of instrument landing system (ILS) was also affected due to poor weather conditions.
Airport sources said that an aircraft of Jet Airways, which developed a snag on Tuesday, could also not be rectified as the aircraft could not take off because of the haze.
An airline passenger on way to New Delhi, Shikha Aggarwal of Sector-43, said, ??With all flights being cancelled from Chandigarh airport it was the duty of airline staff to inform its passengers, however, it was only after she reached the airport that she was informed about the flight being cancelled.''
